Director, Aspen Ideas: Economy, Aspen Institute

Having grown up in California, Sarah has a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in Economics & Anthropology and a master's degree from the University of London in Financial Management. Sarah devoted 18 years of her life working in micro and small business finance in China, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Tanzania. She moved back to the US in late 2019 and has worked for the Aspen Institute for almost 7 years. Sarah's role at the Institute is one that uplifts and connects all programs at the Aspen Institute that strive to build an economy that works for everyone. Sarah is part of the team that runs Aspen Ideas: Economy, a convening that connects conversations about the global economy to real people in real places. Sarah also serves as the Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council at the Aspen Institute, and she is the winner of the 2022 Annual Aspen Equity & Inclusion Staff Award as well as the 2025 Collaboration Catalyst Award. Sarah's unique last name, Zetter + Li, is a combination of her Swedish husband's last name and her own Chinese roots. She lives in Bethesda, MD with her husband and two boys.
